Fired Up for Firefighters
As we step into the 2026–2028 administration under our guiding theme, “Leading with Heart. Serving with Purpose,” GFWC Florida President Terry Reese is proud to announce her President’s Project. Over the next two years, our federation will rally together to support students at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala.
Firefighters stand ready to run toward danger on someone’s hardest day. Yet their intensive 6-month certification program can cost between $10,000 and $13,000, a heavy financial burden that leaves many students juggling exhausting work schedules or taking on significant debt. Through this President’s Project, we aim to remove those financial barriers by funding student scholarships and providing essential safety equipment, including bunker gear.
How Our Clubs Can Get Involved
Led by GFWC Florida President’s Project Chairman Georgia Browning, clubs across Florida have several creative and flexible ways to participate and make an impact.
Build a Firefighter
A fun, hands-on progress tracker coordinated at the district level. As funds are raised, districts will attach pieces of Velcro gear, boots, a helmet, and a coat to a firefighter cutout until fully equipped. Watch the progress grow as your district rallies together!
District Firefighter Calendar Challenge
Districts are competing to be featured in the 2027 GFWC Florida Firefighter Calendar. Between now and mid-July, gather your members and capture a creative, interactive action shot with your local firefighters. Winning photos will be featured in calendars sold at the GFWC Florida Fall Board 2026 for $20, with proceeds benefiting scholarship funds.
Firehouse Friends & Community Boot Drives
Clubs can place fire-truck-themed rainboots around the community to collect coin donations, or show appreciation by delivering meals, homemade cookies, and gift cards to local fire stations.
