GFWC Signature Program

Domestic & Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention

Domestic and sexual violence affect people in every community, in every county in Florida, regardless of age, income, or background. GFWC Florida clubs take this seriously. As GFWC’s Signature Program, this is one of our highest-priority commitments. Our members raise awareness, support survivors, and advocate for the legislative protections that can save lives.

Why this is the GFWC Signature Program

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs has designated Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention as its Signature Program. Through this initiative, clubs across the country work to raise awareness, support local shelters and hotlines, partner with community organizations, and advocate for policies that help protect survivors and strengthen prevention efforts.

What Florida clubs do

Awareness

Community education campaigns.
Clubs host events, distribute resources, and partner with local organizations to raise awareness about the signs of abuse and how to get help.

Support

Supporting shelters & hotlines.
Donating supplies, volunteering time, and raising funds for local domestic violence shelters and crisis hotlines that serve survivors in every Florida community..

Advocacy

Legislative action.
Working through GFWC’s network to advocate for full funding of the Violence Against Women Act and for legislation that closes loopholes that place survivors at risk.

Campus Sexual Assault
Sexual violence on college campuses affects students across Florida and the country. GFWC Florida clubs work to raise awareness about consent, support campus advocacy organizations, and advocate for institutional accountability and stronger protections for student survivors.
Child Abuse
Children are among the most vulnerable victims of abuse. Florida clubs support child advocacy centers, volunteer with child protection organizations, and advocate for stronger laws and resources that protect children and hold abusers accountable.
Elder Abuse
Elder abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglect, affects millions of older Americans. Florida’s aging population makes this focus area especially important. GFWC Florida clubs raise awareness and support resources that protect seniors in their communities.
Human Trafficking
Florida is one of the states most affected by human trafficking in the country. GFWC Florida clubs create awareness campaigns, educate communities about warning signs, support survivor services, and advocate for legislation that holds traffickers accountable and protects victims.
Intimate Partner Violence
Intimate partner violence, including physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse, affects people of every age, income level, and background. GFWC Florida clubs support local shelters and hotlines, raise community awareness, and advocate for full funding of the Violence Against Women Act.
Military Sexual Assault
Members of the military face unique barriers when reporting sexual assault. GFWC Florida clubs honor the women and men who serve our country by supporting organizations that assist military survivors and by advocating for accountability and reform within the military justice system.
Teen Dating Violence
Unhealthy relationships can begin early. GFWC Florida clubs work with schools and youth organizations to educate teens about healthy relationships, recognize warning signs of dating violence, and find safe ways to get help.
Violence Against Native American Women
Native American women experience disproportionately high rates of violence, yet face significant barriers to justice. GFWC supports efforts to close legal gaps, strengthen tribal jurisdiction, and ensure that all women, regardless of where they live or their tribal status, have access to safety and justice.
