Advocacy

GFWC Florida members are advocates as well as volunteers. Since 1895, GFWC Florida clubwomen have supported legislation that protects women, strengthens families, and improves communities. That tradition continues today through GFWC’s national advocacy network, connecting the voices of women across Florida directly to the halls of Congress.

Volunteering changes lives one project at a time. Advocacy helps shape the policies and systems that affect entire communities. We believe in doing both.

What We Stand For

GFWC’s advocacy is guided by resolutions voted on by members, which means every issue we work on reflects the collective values of clubwomen across the country, including right here in Florida.

Women & families

Ending domestic & sexual violence

GFWC advocates for full funding of the Violence Against Women Act, closing loopholes in federal firearms law that put survivors at risk, and supporting domestic violence shelters and hotlines across the country.

Children

Protecting children online & offline

From child abuse prevention funding to online safety legislation, GFWC works to hold bad actors accountable and ensure every child has access to safe, healthy environments, both in the real world and online.

Economic equity

Pay equity & workplace fairness

GFWC supports legislation to close the gender pay gap, prohibit wage discrimination, and ensure working women and families have access to paid family and medical leave.

Education

Libraries, STEAM & broadband access

GFWC advocates for federal funding for public libraries, STEAM education programs, and broadband infrastructure — ensuring that every family, regardless of zip code, has access to the tools they need to succeed.

Health

Health & wellness for all

From global childhood vaccinations to Alzheimer’s research funding to paid family leave, GFWC advocates for policies that protect the health and dignity of women, children, and families.

Environment

Conservation & clean resources

GFWC has championed clean water, clean air, and the preservation of natural resources since the early 1900s. We continue to advocate for federal conservation funding and environmental protections.

Why it matters that you participate

Elected officials hear from lobbyists and special interests every day. What cuts through is constituent mail, real people from their district, with real stakes in the outcome. When a GFWC member in Pensacola, Sarasota, or Jacksonville writes to her Senator, that message carries weight that no organization can manufacture.
GFWC’s strength has always been its numbers and its reach. Across all 50 states, more than 60,000 members are part of this network.
